Updated for 2026 federal tax brackets & Florida laws
Florida is one of the most employer-friendly states in the country. There is no state income tax withholding, no state disability insurance, and no state-specific payroll surcharge. Florida employers only handle federal payroll obligations: FICA taxes (Social Security and Medicare) and FUTA. This Florida payroll tax calculator shows total employer cost per employee.
FICA stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act. Both employees and employers pay FICA: Social Security at 6.2% each (employee + employer) up to the $176,100 wage base, and Medicare at 1.45% each with no wage cap. An employee earning $60,000 generates $3,720 in employer Social Security and $870 in employer Medicare β $4,590 total employer FICA cost.
